Hi All -
I am doing a case study on Disney for my Globalization and Media course. I was wondering how widespread Disney really is and what your experiences are on watching Disney movies and shows. I have been to Disney World twice and my dad owns every Disney movie ever made. Disney is a huge part of my life, but I assume most other people do not share my sentiment. Please post your thoughts on Disney and your exposure to it.
Also, I just had to write an essay on how the movie Aladdin is racist and pseudo-feminist. Do you think that Disney is bad and negatively influencing our culture? I know the girls I babysit for are really into dressing up like princesses, and several of my friends claim that they are princesses. :) Is Disney too prevailant in American culture?
Just wondering what other people thought about the topic. Please let me know.

Hi Andrea!
I personally LOVE disney! it is very widespread I can assure you that even in the Middle East! when I was younger my mum use to buy me all the disney movies avalible! we even have them translated in Arabic! I personally always had a good experience with disney and i love how they bring stories which are actually real or myths and with good morals. like pocahontus and the hunchback of notre dame by vitor hugo. i don't think it has a negative influnce on our culture on the contrary it does have a very good influnce cos i remember watching pocahontus with my dad when i was a kid and he told me that i should never judge any one by their skin colour (my dad is white and my mum is dark so yeah =P) as a child when you watch a movie you watch it as a nice movie with a story but the adults who in my opinion are ALWAYS the source of stupidness and trouble see it the other way. like in Harry potter i grew up with the books and loved them and read them as a story of a boy who was a wizard and had his lovely teachers but people and the press had to rub in that dumbledore was gay so yeah as a kid it wouldn't cross my mind and even know i'm reading a story about a wizard why should people include sex in everything again? my point being people decide what they want things to be and not the producers.
as for Aladdin, why would it be racist or pseudo-feminist?? sorry can't answer that one since I didn't understand =P i really want to visit disney land and hopefully will do even when i turn 60!
